'Start of Summer' Party at The New Barras Centre

Tucked behind the Barrowlands, The New Barras Centre certainly appears to be thriving. Obscure Couture and Rabii Denim are just two of the designers who've made the it their East End base. Now known as BAAD - Barras Art and Design, the centre's had a bit of a makeover and the shops and cafe have some brand new tennants.

'Rabii Denim' designer Rab Watson, renowned for his BEEF parties, reveals he also has big plans to host more events in the space.

To celebrate all of this, there's a 'start of summer' launch party this Saturday 4pm-12pm, it's £8 entry & BYOB, deets below.

*EDIT* Hot off the press... this morning it was announced that Obscure Couture have been nominated for 'Young Designer of The Year 2011' in the Scottish Fashion Awards!

Laura McMonagle nominated for Fashion Icon Award

Actor and singer Laura McMonagle, who's just been nominated for the Fashion Icon Award in this year's Scottish Fashion Awards.

I've photographed Laura many times and love the way she'll casually wear a vintage ball gown with a pair of beaten up Converse - once snapped her in a skirt made entirely of mop heads!

Laura is one of Scotland's true fashion individualists, vote for her HERE.

Jamie Bruski Tetsill @ Urban Outfitters

It seems fashion and art can't keep their hands off each other at the moment. This Thursday, fashion designer Jamie Bruski Tetsill unveils his new paintings and prints at Glasgow's Urban Outfitters.

Also on display is his Tokyo collaboration with Dovecot Studios "RUG 01"

Some of the canvases even feature "tufting"... think I might be struggling to keep my hands to myself!

Jamie invites you all down to the opening for an early evening glass of wine from 5pm - 7.30pm and there's an afterparty at Chambre 69.

The exhibition "Shapes of Things" runs for 4 weeks.

FIGMENTS / OMARINA Launch - Photographed by Martin Barker...

Artist Omar Zingaro Bhatia on opening night.

Omar won 'The Skinny RSA New Contemporaries Award' last year and the current 3 week solo exhibition at The Briggait Gallery constitutes part of his prize.

Entitled "FIGMENTS" it showcases a clutch of brand new paintings, a photo journey through Romania and an outstanding film he's made with his brother Ally.

Omar also wanted to include our recent collaborative projects "OMARINA" and "The Art Suit" in the exhibition. You can see it all from Tues - Sat until the exhibition closes on Thursday 28th of April.

All these pictures of the preview night were taken by one of the most interesting photographers I've met recently, Martin Barker.
