3rd year Textile Design student Daniel McGeough who emailed to ask if I'd like a nosey round the textile department on the run up to the 2011 Glasgow School of Art Fashion Show. His initiative impressed me greatly, here's what I discovered...
The weave room.
The Textile department has been housed in the Newbery Tower since the 70s but the imminent redevelopment of that cluster of buildings means these will be the last students to create their graduate collections here. A specialist team from Ireland have been enlisted to move all the complicated and valuable equipment to its new home at Glasgow's Skypark.
Daniel specialises in knitwear. A sneak peek of his own designs ahead of the catwalk show next week.
So in tribute to the architecture of the art school and Newbery Tower itself, the students have created collections inspired by the buildings.

On the right is Beth who's on hand to provide any technical assistance the students may require.
The Knit Room's 'Wall of Fame" which showcases all the success stories who've passed through the textile department at Glasgow School of Art.
Thanks for the preview Daniel, can't wait to see the show!
